Works Begin At Westholme School
HPA are pleased to announce that works have begun on the new Westholme Prep School in Blackburn.
HPA were appointed back in 2017 to review where development opportunists exist at Westholme’s largest site, their senior school at Wilmar Lodge. After 3 years of feasibility studies, HPA concluded that the entire Westholme School can be accommodated on the Wilmar Lodge site to run as a single campus by incorporating the two existing Music and Art blocks to create a new Prep school. Planning permission was granted in 2020 by Blackburn & Darwen Council, with works commencing this week.
SUSTAINABILITY:
Repurposing and refurbishing the existing buildings significantly reduces the environmental impact of the new facilities, with improvements to the thermal capacity of the original 1970s building helping to create a more eco-friendly structure. Bat boxes have also been installed within the wider landscape to accommodate the local wildlife.
COMMUNITY :
Bringing all the students together on one site will increase the sense of community and by improving the shared facilities at Westholme, they can be used more efficiently by all year groups. These improved spaces include an additional outdoor learning area along with a new recreational playground, improved library and hall space.
