Sam Jones
Originally trained as a Fine Art Sculptor, Sam has followed a slightly unorthodox route into the world of Architecture. Initially achieving a BA (Hons) in Fine Art sculpture at Manchester Metropolitan University, Sam specialised in metalwork, and the life of an artist was supplemented by a string of jobs -the highlight being a Wine Merchant – before eventually working in Graphic Design for over a decade.
Sam returned to academia in 2014 as a mature student gaining BA (Hons)(first) in Architecture followed by MArch (first)at Liverpool University, and was also the winner of the Frank Horton Prize. Sam’s study projects concentrated on context-specific low-tech Architecture, culminating in a thesis project which explored the use of re-forestry as a catalyst for tackling climate change while also looking at long-term employment and environmental stewardship.
Sam went on to gain experience working with a number of design-led practices in the Northwest, notably working as part of the design team tasked with redesigning the galleries at The Lowry, Salford and two years at shedKM in Liverpool.
After nearly 20 years in North Lancashire Sam has truly set down roots in the region, and in 2024 joined HPA designing beautiful, functional context-specific buildings.
Other than Architecture, Sam is a birdwatcher, off-road cyclist and outdoor enthusiast with an unhealthy obsession with the colour orange.
