Team Training Takes HPA On Tour To Blackpool

The HPA Team travelled to Blackpool last week for a day of CPD during which we met with fellow Architects in the area to tour their projects and hear first-hand how the schemes developed, from feasibility to finish.

We kicked off the day with a tour of the newly opened Museum of Fun and Entertainment, Showtown, with an inspiring talk from Neal Charlton, Director and Arts and Culture Lead at Buttress Architects, who walked us through this passion project and the various unique challenges faced by the design team when converting the former windowless Syndicate Night Club site into an innovative community space.

Next stop was The Wedding Chapel, set on Blackpool’s seafront and one of the UK’s most unique ceremony venues. This RIBA award winning and architecturally stunning building is beautiful both inside and out, constructed internally with cross-laminated timber, using an asymmetrical design to draw the eye towards a stunning feature window, allowing the Blackpool Tower to backdrop the events within.

In the afternoon we met Joseph Boniface of JBA Architects and Facilities Manager Phillip Jackson for a tour of the breathtaking Winter Gardens with its diverse multiuse spaces, heritage challenges and sustainability innovations.

With the opportunity to discuss design challenges and share best practice, the team trip was a valuable and collaborative experience for the HPA team.
