Shepherd Huts Provide Diversification for Ring O Bells, Compton Martin

The hospitality industry has faced significant challenges in recent years, particularly in rural areas where pubs serve as vital community hubs. In response, many operators are embracing innovative strategies to diversify and ensure long-term sustainability. Rural pubs in particular play a crucial role in the social fabric of their local area, serving as community hubs and gathering spaces. To respond to the challenges of running a hospitality business post-COVID, operators are exploring innovative solutions to ensure these establishments remain viable for years to come.

One such example is the Ring O’ Bells pub in Compton Martin, located just 16 km south of Bristol. The operators, Butcombe Brewery, reached out to HPA for assistance in developing guest accommodation. With planning permission recently approved, we are thrilled to share our plans for an exciting new development: the installation of six shepherd’s huts created by Black Down Shepherds Huts, a company renowned for its handmade luxury living spaces based in Ilminster.

Crafted with exceptional attention to detail, each unit offers a luxurious and cosy retreat that blends seamlessly with the natural scenic beauty of Compton Martin. The huts will also encourage people visiting the Mendip Hills National Landscape (Formerly AONB) to spend more time in the area.

Our work with the Ring O’ Bells pub underscores the importance of adaptability and creative thinking in the architectural and hospitality industries. By leveraging unique solutions like these luxury shepherd’s huts, we can help preserve the character and charm of traditional pubs while, ensuring their long-term viability.
