Refurbishment Works Underway at Lancaster’s Historic Palatine Hall
We are delighted to share Chiptech UK’s news that refurbishment works are underway at Palatine Hall, following the successful grant of Listed Building Consent for the transformation of this landmark Grade II listed building in the heart of Lancaster.
HPA are proud to be working with Chiptech UK, alongside Form Interior, Duckett Building Services, Pinington, Donald Lomax & Partners and Lancaster City Council on the restoration and refurbishment of the historic property, which serves as Chiptech’s UK and European headquarters. Chiptech recently announced its significant investment in Palatine Hall, demonstrating its long-term commitment to Lancaster and the future of this important heritage asset.
Located on Dalton Square within Lancaster’s Conservation Area, Palatine Hall has played many roles throughout its 225-year history, including as a chapel, concert hall, theatre, cinema and office building. The refurbishment will carefully balance the preservation of the building’s historic character with the creation of a modern, flexible workplace designed to support collaboration, innovation and future growth.
The approved proposals include structural improvements, enhanced accessibility, upgraded facilities, energy efficiency measures and the restoration of historic architectural features. Once complete, the 12,500 sq ft building will provide high-quality office accommodation, testing facilities, training spaces and collaborative working environments for Chiptech’s growing team.
Also recently featured in the Lancaster Guardian, the project builds on a design developed collaboratively by HPA Architects and Form Interior, taking inspiration from both the building’s rich theatrical heritage and Chiptech’s New Zealand roots. Features such as amphitheatre-style seating will create spaces for collaboration while celebrating the building’s unique history.
