Reflecting On National Apprenticeship Week 2026
As a practice committed to nurturing talent and investing in future generations of architects and technologists, the week gave us the opportunity to spotlight the valuable contributions of our own team members following the apprenticeship route to qualification, who are developing their professional skills while playing an active role in our live projects.
Growing Skills, Building Futures
Apprenticeships form an important part of HPA’s commitment to continuous learning and knowledge-sharing. By combining academic study with hands-on project experience, our apprentices benefit from an integrated approach that helps them develop confidence, technical competence, and a deep understanding of real-world practice.
Working closely with our Architects, Technologists, Planning, Heritage & Conservation Specialists and wider project teams, our apprentices contribute to a variety of sectors including commercial, education, heritage, community, leisure, and residential design. Whether assisting with Revit modelling, supporting surveys, preparing design information, or contributing to concept development, their work is meaningful, valued, and makes a visible difference to our projects.
Spotlight on Our Apprentices
Apprentice Technologist
Our Apprentice Technologist, Joe, plays a key role in supporting our technical delivery across multiple projects. From assembling building models to developing construction details and assisting with site-based tasks, his apprenticeship route allows them to strengthen their technical knowledge while gaining insight into the full lifecycle of a project. His growing expertise makes a measurable contribution to the team, supporting efficient project workflows and enhancing the quality of our technical output.
Architectural Apprentice
Our Architectural Apprentice, Holly, is currently progressing through the final stage of her architectural studies while enjoying the benefits of working within our busy and diverse practice. Balancing academic learning with day-to-day project involvement, Holly contributes to the early design stages of schemes, creating plans, Building Regulations submissions, liaising with clients and contractors and site visits. This hands-on experience enriches her studies, helping her to build confidence and clarity in her design thinking while experiencing the realities of practice life.
Why Apprenticeships Matter to HPA
Investing in apprenticeships strengthens our team and enriches the culture of collaboration across the practice. Apprentices bring fresh perspectives, new ideas, and real enthusiasm to our projects – qualities that support innovation and continued improvement. As a team dedicated to delivering Remarkable Places with Lasting Impact, we believe in supporting the development of future professionals who will help shape the built environment for years to come.
Vocational Pathways Lead to Success
National Apprenticeship Week is a welcome reminder of the value of vocational pathways into the profession, and we’re proud of the progress our apprentices are making. Their achievements reflect both their individual dedication and the commitment of our team in providing guidance, mentoring, and opportunities to learn. We look forward to supporting their continued growth and celebrating their future milestones.
