Project Update: Extending Commercial Properties at BRK Enterprise Park
HPA have a long relationship with BRK Enterprise Park in Chorley, and the latest stage of this ongoing development – the extension of existing commercial properties at Unit B – has been a great example of how thoughtful design, clear communication, and collaborative problem-solving can help a successful local business continue to grow.
As the design evolved, we worked through a wide range of technical details. The new structure adopts traditional wall construction to match the existing units, supported by steelwork where needed for large spans and openings. Services already on site, such as water, drainage and electrics, were integrated into the expansion, while new heating systems, including electric fan heaters and air-to-air heat pumps for the first‑floor accommodation, were woven into the design.
Throughout the project, we produced a full package of drawings and building regulations material, covering everything from fire strategy to moisture protection to thermal performance. The Building Regulations Compliance Schedule pulled together all of these elements to ensure the project aligned fully with statutory requirements.
Energy performance also played a key role in the design of the new accommodation. A detailed SAP report confirmed that the introduction of PV panels, air source heat pumps and improved thermal detailing provided a robust and sustainable solution that will serve the occupants well for years to come.
As ever, collaboration was central to the project’s progress. BRK appointed a strong team, including Approved Inspectors for building control, Thomas Consulting for structural engineering, and Murton & Co for SAP/SBEM assessments. Regular communication between all parties kept the project moving smoothly and ensured decisions were made quickly and confidently.
Perhaps the most meaningful part of the project, though, was the feedback from BRK themselves. Their message – “a pat on the back for doing a grand job” – was shared internally and was very much appreciated by the whole team. Moments like this reflect the strength of the partnerships we build with our clients and the pride we take in delivering high-quality, practical architectural solutions.
This project has been a deeply satisfying piece of work for everyone involved. The expansion of Unit B not only increases the capacity and flexibility of BRK Enterprise Park but also supports continued local enterprise and employment. We’re proud to have played our part in shaping this next chapter for BRK, and we look forward to continuing our work together as the business park evolves.
