Planet Mark Business Certification Achieved – Year 3
For the third year running, we are proud to announce that HPA are a Planet Mark Certified Business, marking another important step in our sustainability journey. As part of being Planet Mark Certified, we are also committed to achieving an annual 5% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and improving our data quality score, from year three of certification onwards.
During the period 1st April 2024 to 31st March 2025, we reduced our measured scope 1,2 and core scope 3 emissions (location based) by an impressive 11.2% compared to the previous year. Measured emissions included fleet, natural gas, electricity, waste and business travel.
Business travel emissions saw the most significant reduction, dropping by an impressive 50%. This reduction was achieved by staff opting to travel on public transport wherever possible for business meetings and use of an electric fleet car. This even included the hire of a Brompton Bike on a site visit to Bristol rather than hiring a car.
To progress on the journey to net zero it is important that we measure the full inventory of our carbon footprint as we cannot manage what we do not measure. As a Planet Mark Certified Business, we are therefore committed to increasing what we are measuring each year to eventually understand the carbon emissions associated with all our business activities. Once we know our total carbon footprint, we will be able to establish net zero targets and work towards achieving at least a 90% reduction across Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, to achieve net zero.
Beyond measuring emissions data, we’re taking a holistic approach to sustainability by improving operational efficiency, engaging our team through workshops and awareness campaigns, and collaborating with suppliers who share our environmental values.
By embedding sustainability into every aspect of our practice – from design to delivery – we aim to lead by example in the architectural sector and continue making a meaningful, measurable difference.
