More Awards Success for HPA!

HPA has been recognised for its innovative work on two design projects in the region. The practice’s work to renovate St Peter’s Church Hall, Heysham, as well as an extension on a Grade II Listed house in Bolton-le-Sands, was commended at the 2016 Lancaster District Design Awards.

Director of HPA, Richard Wooldridge, said: “While we work across the UK, Lancaster is our home and we’re proud of all the projects we work on locally. It’s great to have that work recognised, especially given the strength of the entries to this year’s awards.”

The project at St Peter’s Church Hall saw a Victorian era former stables building transformed so it can be used by the wider community. Complete with new heating, lighting, and insulation, paired with improved disabled access, the modernised church hall is now a more flexible and energy-efficient space.

The second commendation was for an extension to the private home Darwen House, pictured, which moulds effortlessly with the Grade II Listed property, which was built in 1715. With attractive views over the rear gardens, the scheme also recovered an original stone well during construction, which is used as a unique interior design feature.

The Lancashire District Design Awards were held at Lancaster University and judged by representatives from The Chamber North Lancashire, Lancaster and Westmorland Society of Architects, Lancaster University and Lancaster Civic Society. Recognising designs with the most attractive impact, the bi-annual awards showcase both public and private projects within the Lancaster district.
