Measuring Progress: 4th Year of Planet Mark Certification
HPA Chartered Architects are pleased to confirm that we have achieved Planet Mark Certified Business status for the fourth year running.
This certification recognises our ongoing commitment to measuring and reducing our carbon footprint, using a robust and independently verified methodology in line with the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol.
Steady Progress Year on Year
This year’s results show continued progress in reducing our impact. Our Scope 1 and 2 emissions – those directly linked to our energy use – have reduced by 8.0% compared to last year.
Electricity emissions have also fallen by 10.7%, supported by our transition to a zero-carbon energy tariff.
Overall, our measured carbon footprint for the year is:
- 7 tonnes of CO₂e in total
- 7 tonnes of CO₂e per person
These figures reflect both a reduction in emissions and improved efficiency as the practice continues to grow.
A Clearer Picture of Our Impact
This year, we have expanded what we measure to include a wider range of activities, particularly business travel and other indirect emissions. Including more data gives us a fuller and more accurate picture of our environmental impact. While this means the overall footprint appears higher than in previous years, it reflects better reporting rather than an increase in emissions from our core operations.
Looking Ahead
Achieving recertification for a fourth year is an important milestone, but it is part of a longer-term commitment to improve how we work. We will continue to build on this progress as part of our wider sustainability goals and ISO 14001 commitments, focusing on further reducing emissions and improving the quality of our data.
