It’s Lancashire Day – Our Team Share Their Favourite Buildings

The 27th November is Lancashire Day, so to celebrate, we asked our team to share with us their favourite buildings in this, our home county…

First, we asked Trainee Technologist Joe – as a season ticket holder, Joe didn’t hesitate to choose the Mazuma Stadium, home to Morecambe Football Club. Proof that a building can evoke strong emotions, for what it represents, not just what it is.

Next up, Associate & Architect Emma chose Lancaster Castle, despite being from Yorkshire… Not only does it have a lovely view of our office on Castle Hill, it is a structure which holds examples of every moment in history and architecture, and was home of the infamous Pendle Witch trials of 1612.

A firm favourite for Architectural Assistant Sam is the Grade II listed Brutalist icon that is the Pennine Tower of Forton Services, built in 1965, so celebrating its 60th anniversary – we can but dream of that commission. A close second for Sam was Trencherfield Mill in Wigan…

Director and Conservation Architect Zoë said, “I love the experimentation of Adam Kahn’s design for Brockholes, but the Midland Hotel in Morecambe – listed as one of the most important buildings in Modern Architecture in the UK – was one of the reasons I became an Architect and why I joined the Art Deco Society as a teenager.”

For Architectural Assistant Jia, it is the conversion of Slackwood Farm in Silverdale – a Grade II* listed 17th century farmhouse with a contemporary glazed circular extension, as well as the conversion of the barn and manor house.

Lancashire’s architectural landscape is as diverse as its history – from medieval castles and industrial mills to modernist icons and bold contemporary designs. These favourites from our team show how buildings are more than bricks and mortar; they hold stories, shape communities, and inspire creativity.

On Lancashire Day, we celebrate not just the places we design, but the heritage and innovation that make this county unique.
