HPA Welcomes Specialist Technologist Ray To The Team
We are pleased to welcome Specialist Technologist Ray Ockenden to the HPA team, bringing a strong technical background and extensive experience in complex, safety-critical sectors.
Ray is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) with over nine years of industry experience. He studied Architectural Technology at the University of Central Lancashire before completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Historic Conservation at Oxford Brookes University, in association with the University of Oxford – combining technical expertise with a strong understanding of heritage contexts.
His early experience included working on the restoration of a prestigious college and contributing to the repair and adaptation of churches, listed buildings and historic structures across the Northwest.
Over the past seven years, Ray has specialised in the nuclear and clean energy sectors, working on major infrastructure projects across Cumbria. Acting as Architectural Lead on schemes ranging from smaller developments to projects exceeding £1 billion, he has coordinated multidisciplinary teams and delivered projects through all RIBA stages – from concept design to construction, commissioning and handover.
Ray’s experience on nationally significant developments, including nuclear waste storage facilities and laboratory schemes, has developed his strengths in technical assurance, site coordination and design management. He brings expertise in building regulations, technical design and 3D modelling, alongside a collaborative, delivery-focused approach.
Ray has already embraced life at HPA, taking part in the recent UKREiiF Sportif – a great example of the active and collaborative culture we value as a practice.
Outside of work, Ray enjoys spending time with his young family and can often be found at his allotment or exploring Cumbria, Lancashire and Yorkshire on foot or by bike. We are delighted to welcome Ray to the team and look forward to the expertise he brings as we continue to grow our portfolio across the UK.
