HPA to Lead Repair of Grand Theatre

HPA Architects have been commissioned by Lancaster Footlights Trust to complete a series of works as part of the Lancaster Heritage Action Zone, (HAZ) a collaborative regeneration scheme run in partnership between Historic England and Lancaster City Council.
The Grand Theatre is a thriving community asset and it’s refurbishment is a key project within the Canal Quarter Scheme which seeks to revitalise a 16-acre site within Lancaster city centre.
Located on St Leonards Gate, within the Lancaster Conservation Area, the property is included on the National Heritage List for England as a Grade II listed building. Opened as ‘The Theatre, Lancaster’ in 1782 it underwent numerous amendments during the 19th and 20th centuries.
Lancaster Footlights Trust has aspirations for the building to include the erection of a new entrance foyer, proposed for delivery in 2022 subject to funding.
