HPA Sponsor Lancaster Rewind Festival
HPA are proud to sponsor the brand new Lancaster Rewind Festival, set to hit the streets of our historic city centre on September 16th.
The inception of this Festival was born from discussions between HPA Director, Richard Woolridge, and Lancaster BID, where they traced city history and envisioned what Lancaster was like fifty years ago, in 1972. Later, these ideas generated enough funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund to make this event become a reality.
HPA sourced photos of ancient architectural structures and landscapes from the RIBA Photograph Archive, putting together an exhibition showcase to highlight the similarities and differences that these passing years have brought. This completed exhibition will be available to view in City Museum.
The Festival itself is inspired by Lancaster in the 70’s, a time of flare pants, Elvis, hippie colours. It will include looking back at everything that has changed over the past fifty years, and what has actually remained the same. Over fifty businesses that have been trading in Lancaster for decades have contributed to the ideas, producing a collaborative film and booklet to accompany the dates.
Live music will be noticeable in the city over the weekend, along with public discussions about the famous rock bands that have performed at Lancaster University throughout the 70’s. There will also be guided walks and talks on offer for visitors, with an exciting day of entertainment located in Market Square.
We look forward to seeing you all there.
