HPA Shortlisted As Finalists In The Northern Design Awards 2024
HPA are excited to be shortlisted as finalists in the Residential Build category of the Northern Design Awards 2024.
Our submission focused on creating a new, sustainable, and accessible home for our clients within the Arnside & Silverdale National Landscape. Futureproofed to ensure the clients can enjoy their home into retirement, the clients asked for their house to have the feel of a traditional blackhouse seen in the landscapes of Scotland and Scandinavia.

The building arrangement creates a sheltered entrance space and raised beds in a courtyard configuration. The living and sleeping areas are separated into different volumes divided by a welcoming light glazed entrance which connects to the landscapes.
Externally the building is clad in black timber and aluminium in response to its former farm setting and taking reference from some of the simply crafted houses in the village. The sustainable and accessible design considered Passivhaus principles as well as visual impact within the local landscape and its simple, quiet, modern vernacular design.
Celebrating excellence in architecture, interior design, and landscaping across the North of the UK, The Northern Design Awards were founded to put northern design talent on the map, attracting entries from the best and brightest professionals in the industry. HPA are immensely proud to be shortlisted for an accolade in this year’s cohort and look forward to discovering the outcome in November.
