HPA Celebrates One Year Anniversary of Planet Mark Certification
Here at HPA, we are proudly celebrating our one year anniversary of being Planet Mark Certified (a sustainability certification for businesses and organisations). Last year, HPA furthered their commitment to reducing their impact on the environment by signing up for the internationally recognised sustainability scheme. Planet Mark exemplifies the company’s dedication to assessing and reducing our carbon footprint, thereby reinforcing our agreement to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.
To achieve this at HPA, we’ve followed a robust three-step process: measuring our impact, engaging everyone in the business and communicating the progress made in the pursuit of reaching net zero carbon emissions. We are also contributing to the UN SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) as we believe that it’s more important than ever, to do better and create a sustainable future.
Back in 2020, HPA became one of the very first practices in the North West of England to commit to actively manage our goals and targets of improving our own carbon emissions, with the aim of becoming carbon neutral by 2030, in line with the RIBA Climate Challenge. As a practice we felt we had to walk the walk before advising clients on steps forward on their projects.
As we celebrate our one year anniversary of Planet Mark, we reflect upon what we have achieved here at HPA:
- Improved upon our recording and knowledge of life cycle costing and whole life carbon modelling, working with our sister company, WooHoo.
- Implemented PassivHaus standards with help of our qualified designer Andrew Walters.
- Initiated the first project with documentation of waste scheduling and recycling: starting onsite this year.
- Continued to reduce carbon emissions by 2.5% across the office annually.
- Engaged our team in practical training on retrofitting with natural materials.
- Participated in additional CPD (Continuing Professional Development) training ( with tree specialists and ecologists, explored proactive design for biodiversity net gain, and prepared for a changing environment. Our sister company, WooHoo continues to steadily gain clients whilst making more investments in technology to assist projects by providing more extensive and in-depth information.
Our entire business has contributed to our achievement in becoming Planet Mark certified, and every individual will continue to play an important role in our sustainability commitment. HPA want to continue to have a positive impact through our business and hope that we can empower our wider community to take climate action.
