Hotel Architects Unveil Plans for the Rampsbeck

The hotel and leisure team at HPA has helped gain Planning Permission to redevelop the Rampsbeck Hotel, in the Lake District.

The practice was appointed in 2015, shortly after the hotel was acquired by Another Place, to draw up plans for sensitive alterations and improvements to the existing hotel, situated on the shores of Ullswater and set in 18 acres of the Lake District National Park.

The four-star Rampsbeck already had Planning Permission for a sizeable extension, containing additional rooms and leisure facility to the south of the main building. However, the new project will remodel this area, and other parts of the hotel building, to increase the number of bedrooms from 19 to 40, including 10 family suites, an informal bar and dining space to complement the existing oak-panelled restaurant, a 20-metre indoor swimming pool, treatment rooms, and a redesigned entrance and reception.

Richard Wooldridge, a director of HPA, said: “This is an exciting project for our team of specialist hotel architects. We’re very proud to be involved in shaping the vision that Another Place has for Rampsbeck.

Our client wants the hotel to make the most of its unique location and topography, benefiting as it does from a quarter of a mile of lakeside frontage. We believe these plans will help Another Place achieve the distinct mix of active, social and relaxed hospitality for which it wants its hotels to be known.”

Coupled with its stunning location, Rampsbeck has a reputation for exceptional service and fabulous food, already recognised with two AA Rosettes.

Another Place comes from the team at Watergate Bay Hotel, which is lending to the collection its relaxed, active, and social ethos. Next to join Another Place will be a 60-bedroom urban boutique hotel in Royal William Yard, Plymouth. Occupying a Grade I Listed former naval victualing building, the hotel is being developed in conjunction with Urban Splash.

Will Ashworth, Managing Director of Another Place, added: “We want to widen the appeal of Rampsbeck to both current and new visitors while staying true to the spirit of Ullswater. These plans are exciting yet sympathetic to the unique surroundings of the Lake District National Park. They represent a significant investment in improving Rampsbeck for all our guests.

HPA has forged a strong reputation for its hotel design expertise, especially its knowledge of designing for hotel projects in National Parks. Other recent projects include hotel extensions at The Forest Side Hotel at Grasmere, Hipping Hall in Kirkby Lonsdale, and The Ryebeck Hotel and Restaurant in Bowness-on-Windermere.
