Hipping Hall Expansion Completed by HPA

The addition of five new bedrooms at an award-winning Lake District hotel is already helping attract more visitors and group bookings. HPA has overseen the extension of the historic Hipping Hall, based in Kirkby Lonsdale, which has been extended into an adjacent stables building.

The £250,000 project has boosted capacity by 50% and is enabling Hipping Hall, owned by Andrew Wildsmith, to cater for larger weddings and corporate events.

Richard Parker, a director at HPA, said: “This has been one of the most pleasing hotel design projects we’ve worked on, both in terms of the challenges of working in such an old building, but also because we’ve helped a longstanding client realise the full potential of the hotel.”

We’re really pleased with the final look of the project which has tastefully restored the building and maintained the stables’ original features and character. The internal fit also does justice to the hotel’s reputation for luxury and quality.”

Owner Andrew Wildsmith commented: “We wanted to give customers greater choice and also enable us to cater for larger weddings and events by the addition of more rooms. The project has been an enormous success in transforming the potential of the hotel and finished product looks fantastic.”

The project at Hipping Hall also included extensive landscaping of the grounds to integrate the new building with the existing hotel and improve the customer experience. The landscaping project was designed and overseen by landscape architect Frances Truscott.

The development at Hipping Hall is one of a number of hotel design projects HPA has worked on for Andrew Wildsmith’s hotel group, which also includes The Ryebeck at Bowness and the recently opened Forest Side Hotel at Grasmere.
