Cutting The Red Tape – HPA Host Lancashire Business View Roundtable Discussion On Planning
The Government recently announced a ‘bold’ reform of the planning system to include the slashing of red tape and unlocking land to build new housing.
Putting planning under the microscope, Lancashire Business View brought together a select group of businesses to be part of an exclusive roundtable event to discuss and debate the crucial issues, challenges and opportunities within the planning sector.
Hosted at our offices on Castle Hill against the historic backdrop of Lancaster Castle, we discussed what impact this planning revolution is likely to have in Lancashire.
Topics of discussion included finding a balance between urban and rural development, how we manage our heritage buildings, delivering transport and critical infrastructure and the challenges facing our town and city centres.
One of the major items debated was the frustration about how long a project now takes from inception through to gaining planning permission, and the regulatory journey a project has to go through before anything is built. The group shared experiences and suggested solutions and ways in which the public and private sector needed to work together to meet the Governments new targets.
The session helped build bridges between construction industry professionals and facilitated honest conversations.
