The Independent’s Best Boutique Hotels in the Lake District
Three hotels that HPA have worked on in the Lake District have recently been named by The Independent in their ‘Best Boutique Hotels in the Lake District’ article, written in December 2021.
HPA have a vast experience of working on boutique hotels and heritage properties in the picturesque setting of the Lake District. Internationally recognised as a World Heritage Site, the works we carry out for properties like this require expert planning knowledge. HPA also understand the unique and special attributes of the district, from differing creeks and valleys, to knowing how to create special places within the monumental landscape.
The Forest Side Hotel
The Forest Side Hotel in Grasmere has been named ‘Best for Fairytale Gardens’. Working both internally and externally, the extensive refurbishment and extension work that HPA assisted with has enabled this dilapidated Victorian mansion to return to its former glory. This work included the removal of partitions, restoring rooms to their original full size, and extending the dining room with a new stone terrace.
Working alongside Landscape Architects, HPA helped realise the potential of the garden and grounds, which includes the development of the Kitchen Garden, providing home grown produce for the hotels Michelin Star Restaurant.
Another Place
Named ‘Best for Lakeside Living’, Another Place, The Lake in Ullswater was extended to incorporate new bedrooms, spa and dining facilities that HPA designed carefully to work with the hotels surroundings. With Ullswater Lake as a focal point for this hotel, the glass infinity pool and room views connect guests with this beautiful outdoor setting and are in keeping of the ‘Lakeland’ identity.
Another Place are also launching ‘outdoor rooms’ including Treehouse and Shepherd Hut accommodation. HPA have designed these suites using natural materials, discreetly located to reduce the visual impact of the huts and blend into the surrounding environment.
The Samling
Surrounded by Lakeland fellside and overlooking Lake Windermere, HPA have worked with the Samling Hotel to support their aspirations for expansion, utilising the hotel’s World Heritage protected grounds. Named ‘Best for Walks in the Grounds’ by The Independent, HPA are providing ongoing support to make this site more efficient, helping to re-design work for their Dutch Barn facilities, gaining planning permission for a barn conversion and works to their new jetty which starts in March 2022.
The specialist knowledge that HPA has accumulated working within the Lake District National Park has led to many successful project like these, working effectively with the budget and considering planning solutions carefully.
