HPA have recently completed the redevelopment of the leading, independent Westholme Preparatory School – who have been long-standing clients of the practice for over twenty years now.
We have undertaken three years of feasibility studies, appointed recently in 2017, which concluded that all 700 students (of all ages) could be housed on one single campus, through the repurposing and refurbishment of the Wilmar Lodge.
These plans were granted permission in 2020, by Blackburn and Darwen Council, and incorporated the combining of two existing buildings to create a new Prep on the Senior site. Our design also oversaw a new first-floor extension to form a new Primary school for its 200 Infant and Junior school pupils.
This relocation onto one site brought students closer together in an efficient fashion, creating a new sense of community whilst improving the shared facilities of an outdoor learning area, a recreational playground, and a new and upgraded library and hall space.
As well as this, HPA have worked on a number of architectural projects, of varying sizes and varying sites, across Westholme Prep School including: a high-quality theatre with the capacity to seat over 500, a sixth form centre featuring a new library and teaching areas, an all-weather games pitch, an extension to the music school, a variety of new classrooms across the majority of departments, kitchen extensions and improvements, along with the relocation of the nursery to the junior school.
