HPA have been working with Morecambe based children’s charity, Unique Kidz & Co on proposals to transform their existing buildings and outdoor space.
The two stage project involves the landscaping of the field adjacent to their existing site in Morecambe, working alongside Landscape Architect Laurel Truscott, the proposals will include a cycle track, accessible play area, sensory gardens, growing gardens, and two specialist lodges.
With 187 disabled young people on its register and numbers continuing to increase, Unique Kidz has outgrown its building and services are at capacity. This new project will allow them to take on more disabled young people, expand their services , and provide more accessible spaces, meaningful activities, and opportunities.
In the second stage of works, the current building will be extended and the internal layout will be organised to allow for increased capacity, in addition to offering spaces such as sensory rooms, therapy suites, and an accessible kitchen.
Unique Kidz provides: afterschool, holiday, and weekend clubs for children aged 5-19 with disabilities; daytime support, evening and weekend sessions for young adults aged 18-30 with disabilities; a stay and play group for children under five; and a siblings group for children over eight who have a disabled sibling. The charity employs 23 permanent members of staff and has a bank of casual staff for additional support during the school holidays.
We look forward to seeing the works come to life and to working alongside Unique Kidz to deliver their project over the coming years.
