Work has been completed on the innovative decarbonisation project at Salt Ayre Leisure Centre in Lancaster. The multi-million-pound project ensures that onsite CO2 emissions at Salt Ayre are eliminated and it is one of the first such facilities in the UK to be net carbon zero.
Improvements included replacing gas boilers with Air Source Heat Pumps, providing external LED lighting, and upgrading glazing to reduce energy consumption. A solar farm was also constructed on a disused landfill site adjacent to the leisure centre, distributing electricity via direct wire.
