When the homeowners first approached the local planning authority to ask whether a two-storey extension could be added to this Grade II Listed Building, the answer was an emphatic ‘no’.
HPA were commissioned to try and change the planner’s minds. A two-storey extension was designed with a glazed link between the old and the new stone-faced buildings. This link creates a ‘pause’ which allows the Listed Building to be visually separated from the new extension.
The extension creates a new hallway, stairwell, garage and utility room. Two new first floor bedrooms are linked through to the original building via a glazed bridge. The relocation of the staircase has also released valuable space in the original building.
