This contemporary design for a replacement dwelling in the North Lakes is another project demonstrating our expertise in designing large private housing projects in the Lake District National Park. Working with quantity surveyors Bushell Raven, we were able to deliver an inspiring and unique design for our client – a fun, outdoor-loving, design-focused family.
The property is mix of blue-grey slate walling, a zinc roof and composite fibre-cement cladding. Taking inspiration from the great housing projects of the Alpine mountains, with their exceptional weatherproof detailing, the building features large glazing, rooflights, a dormer window, and a first-floor terrace to maximise natural light and take in the dramatic Lake District views.
Grey powder-coated aluminium-framed windows and grey timber doors with aluminium frames complete the contemporary design. The result in an impressive yet non-imposing building that sits comfortably in its National Park surroundings.
The interior is cutting-edge with high-design features which are sustainable in their manufacture. The journey through the interior plays with contrasts in light as a timber stairway winds through the house.
The housing project is accessed of a narrow road and the design was adapted to be part pre-fabricated to overcome the difficult logistics and the construction challenges posed by the Cumbria weather.
