Hornby Community Resource Centre

Hornby Institute Building

HPA were approached to look at Hornby Village Hall back in 1998. Over the years, our practice worked closely with the local community to develop a scheme to restore and rejuvenate this Listed building. Eventually, enough money was raised for the work to go ahead through fundraising and a number of successful grant applications.

The building has been restored to it’s former glory whilst still complying with tough modern legislation. Most of the original features have been retained and restored, and a number of new interventions have been designed to complement the original building style.

The building is used for a variety of purposes and contains a multi-purpose hall with a stage, a number of meeting rooms, a bar, gallery, gym, internet room, and a community WC.

This project demonstrates how a community centre can be given a new lease of life with a great deal of care and attention. This scheme subsequently won the prestigious Community Benefit category of the RICS North West Awards.
