Haverbreaks Houses are a pair of new-build properties located within the Haverbreaks area of Lancaster. Haverbreaks is a private estate in walking distance of the city centre. It is exceptionally popular due to its tree-lined streets and position next to the Lancaster Canal. It has a picturesque setting. The previously empty plot sits within the estate and is surrounded by many unique individually designed detached homes ranging in ages and modern style.
HPA were asked by the land owner to design two high quality, semi-detached houses with large gardens and off street parking for their young family.
The building was designed to echo those of the surrounding buildings, using traditional pitched roof forms, albeit with modern detailing. The palette of materials also draws from those of the surrounding buildings, incorporating natural sandstone, timber and white render on the walls, and slate roofing.
HPA have detailed the new build houses with energy efficiency in mind, and will be constructed to exceed the current thermal standards in the Building Regulations with passive ventilation and energy efficient heating systems. The layout and position of the building has been designed to reflect modern family living, creating bright light spaces for entertaining with open plan spaces leading out into the gardens.
