HPA was appointed to work on a multi-million pound restoration of this historic Grade II-listed Cumbrian hotel, following its acquisition by Wildsmith Hotels.
The hotel’s 23 guest rooms were completely reconfigured and refurbished to create 20 larger ensuite bedrooms and luxury duplex suites. The dining room was also extended to open onto a new garden terrace.
The hotel renovation project was managed by our team of specialist hotel architects, who ensured the building’s original features were conserved. We worked with interior designer James Mackie and landscape architect Frances Truscott on the project.
The hotel’s 20 bedrooms feature bespoke beds designed exclusively for Wildsmith Hotels, made with more than 10,000 springs. Its carpets are made using the wool from Herdwick sheep – the entire order for the carpets totalled more than 2,000 fleeces.
The hotel’s restaurant, run by award-winning chef Kevin Tickle, recently won Britain’s “best kept secret” at Tatler’s annual Restaurant Awards.
