Althams Butchers, established in 1856, is a heritage, family-run business that specialises in ensuring the production and service of quality produce. With over a century in the industry, Althams is one of the oldest and largest, independent family-owned butchers in the country.
The company employs over 100 staff and is one of the largest employers in the area. Having outgrown their existing site in a nearby industrial estate, HPA designed a purpose built meat production site on behalf of Althams located on a newly acquired site in the Morecambe area. The state-of-the-art meat processing facility in Lancashire supplies some of the UK’s top hotels, restaurants and retailers.
There was previously a free-range pork farm operating from the chosen site in Morecambe which closed in 2012, and the farmhouse and outbuildings have been unused since. The redundant buildings made way for a 5,100 square metre facility that features the latest preparation, packing, and refrigeration facilities.
Works began in 2018 however the site is currently up for sale due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
