Another Place launches ‘Outside’ with designs by HPA
Another Place launches Outside, an “inspiring collection of new rooms and spaces that give you the chance to stay even closer to the wild”.
Made up of the treehouse, shepherd huts. Glasshouse and rebuilt Sheep Sheds – Another Place, The Lake’s CEO Will Ashworth says, “Outside is our imaginative new collection of rooms and spaces designed to expand guests’ horizons and deepen their connection with the striking outdoor setting and active lifestyle that draws them here.”
Treehouse
Designed by HPA, the treehouse has floor-to-ceiling views of the lake and is the largest accommodation on offer at Another Place, standing at 70m2. Accessed by a bridge, the treehouse is in three different sections – two double bedrooms and a bathroom all connected via glazed walkways. Sitting in a secluded spot surrounded by the indigenous oak, ash and yew trees of the Lake District – two sides of the structure have unadulterated views across the lake and fells. Sympathetic to its surroundings, the treehouse will sit among the mature trees in its setting without causing any damage as well as being concrete-free and will be built using an eco screw pile system for its foundations with sustainability as a central focus for the project. Project Architect and Director at HPA Zoe Hooton explains that the design of the charred timber treehouse is almost sculptural in its geometry and very much designed to be site specific. We wanted a modern treehouse that really put you amongst the site and that was a lake district vernacular.
Internally, a log burner and reclaimed oak floor create a considered interior design and outside, a large outdoor deck will house a freestanding bath so guests ‘can soak their worries away beneath the leafy canopy’.
Shepherd Huts
Collaborating with Blackdown Shepherd Huts, Another Place will also introduce six handcrafted shepherd huts to its site. HPA have lead the planning process and site layout design. Each unit comprises of two shepherd huts joined with a glass walkway. HPA have also collaborated with Matt Hulme of Dynargh Design on the production of the interiors for all of the new areas.

Glasshouse & Sheep Shed
With the initial sketches and design done by HPA, the Victorian-Style Glasshouse will be a flexible space used by guests for dining as well as yoga and creative workshops. The creation of the Glass House in the grounds is a nod to Another Places main building the Rampsbeck which was a former Victorian villa. The bespoke glasshouse design is being manufactured by Award winning Hartley Botanic with Lakeland slate stone walling. The glasshouse will sit alongside the existing kitchen garden which has developed following the arrival of a new chef onsite earlier in the year.
Another Place’s Sheep Shed, also re-designed by HPA will provide a lakeside cabin for guests to change, shower and dry wet suits post water sports on the lake.
Another Place are longstanding clients of HPA, having completed the extension and redevelopment for them when they took over from the hotel in 2016. We are all very excited to be continuing to assist and lead the next phase of works at the Hotel which will really refine its incredible lakeside setting and relationship to its landscape.
