27 Apartments in Leeds Receive Planning Permission
An exciting scheme for 27 family-sized apartments in Leeds has now received Approval from Leeds City Council. The site is the former Leeds Technical College building, on the prominent corner of Richmond Street and the main thoroughfare of East Street.
This decision comes after nearly 12 months of negotiation with Leeds City Council, regarding the scale and appearance of the building. The site is in a Conservation Area, and sits adjacent to a Grade II Listed Building. In recent years, a number of postmodern buildings have been permitted in the area, but some of these are now looking a little dated. HPA’s initial enquiry to the Council was for a modernist building, but it was agreed that a calm, ‘inoffensive’ building was needed on this site in order not to dominate the Listed Building next door.
The resultant design is one that acknowledges the corner location of the site, whilst addressing the historic buildings of the adjacent site. The building acts as a shield from the roads, and apartments look out into a landscaped private internal court / communal garden. Each flat is approximately 950 square ft in floor area and contains 3 bedrooms, with a generous living room and kitchen. The basement of the building contains underground parking and storage areas for the flats.
The Client is currently seeking a development partner who wishes to take the scheme forward.
